The Congress veteran and former Assam Chief Minister Bhumidhar Barman admitted to the intensive care unit of Dispur hospital and undergoing treatment for old-age ailments.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora along with other leaders of the party on Wednesday visited the hospital to enquire about Barman’s health.
According to Doctors, he is gradually recovering and his condition is stable at present.
Barman was in charge as Assam’s Chief Minister from 22 April to 14 May 1996 after the death of former Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia.
Barman had also been the acting Chief Minister briefly in 2010 when the then Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had gone for bypass surgery to the US.
During his illustrious career in politics, Barman had been elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly seven times.
He also held the important portfolios of revenue and health and family welfare as a cabinet minister.
