Arunachal Pradesh: 2 killed due to landslide in West Kameng

Two people were killed after their car hit by a landslide at Bhalukping-Charduar-Tawang (BTC) road at West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Mangal Rai (28) and Monica Sonar (40).

Sources informed that while they were travelling from BTC road, suddenly a landslide hit their car.

While Rai was driving, Monica, the wife of T K Sonar, an assistant sub-inspector of the West Kameng police, was also with him in the car with her husband and two kids.

“The incident occurred at around 10 am on Saturday when Sonar, along with his wife and two children were travelling towards Tezpur, Assam from Bomdila following a medical emergency,” said a police official.

He said, “Five persons on board in the car hit by a landslide caused by incessant rainfall near Saddle in Nechiphu. The driver died on the spot while the rest were evacuated to the army medical hospital in Dahung where Monica succumbed to her injury,”.

“ASI Sonar, who sustained serious injuries has been referred to a hospital in Tezpur. Both the children escaped unhurt in the incident,” the police official added.

The BCT road has been marked red for travel at 77.500 km due to incessant rain for past several days.

Every year, due to landslide many people are killed in Arunachal Pradesh. Mostly, landslide occurs during rainy season in Arunachal Pradesh.
