Assam: 26 Rohingyas detained in Silchar

Silchar police detained 26 Myanmar nationals in Assam’s Silchar when they entered the city with a hired Innova car on Sunday morning.

According to police, last night they reached Guwahati through a train from Jammu and landed at Kamakhya railway station.

“Our patrolling party suspected and during interrogation, they were found to be Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar. Among 26, 6 of them were female and the other 6 were male and the rest of them were children. Preliminary investigation revealed that someone from Silchar contacted them and told them to come here,” said Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur.

The SP said, “Right now, we don’t know much about them but preliminary investigation revealed that they are Rohingya. We have arrested them for illegally entering India and as per law we will proceed in the case,”.

It is learned that during the persecution of Rohingyas in Myanmar, all of them fled the country and secretly took refuge in Jammu and Kashmir and thereafter moved to Delhi after several years and later they moved to Assam.
