Assam: BJP to select 1,200 women speakers to galvanise support for 2021 election

Ahead of Assembly election in Assam, BJP is going to select 1,200 women speakers through competition, organising conference to galvanise support for the party.

According to a State BJP leader the women speakers will popularise Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal government’s flagship programmes, besides the central dispensation’s achievements, in the run-up to the elections.

Party leaders said these 1,200 women will be selected through ‘biya naam’ (marriage song) and debate competitions to be held from next month at 400 mandals. Singing ‘biya naam’ is one of the most significant activities in Assamese marriage ceremonies.

According to party sources, BJP has been giving stress on Mandal Comittee and booth Comittee. This time, the saffron party has been giving priority to women speakers to garner more votes in the upcoming assembly election in Assam.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Assam next month to take stock of the poll preparations.
