Police on Sunday arrests one of the four alleged in gang raping a woman in Sontali, in Kamrup district, about 80 kms from Assam capital Guwahati.
According to an FIR filed by the victim, Habibur Rahman had raped her in his residence and three other — Abdul Mannan, Sangser Ali and Majid Ali had gang raped her earlier in a field.

Habibur has already been arrested while the rest two are still absconding.

Police said that the four had promised to lend money to the victim and called her on the night of Saturday.

“When she went to meet them, they allegedly gangraped her in a field. Then, she was taken to Habibur’s residence where he allegedly raped her”, police said quoting the victim’s statement.

The victim was rescued by locals from Habibur’s residence and then, she went to the police station to file the complaint.

“We have started investigation and a man hunt to apprehend the absconding three,” police said.

This is the second incident of gang rape in the state within 30 days.

Last month, two sisters were allegedly gangraped and killed and then hung from a branch of a tree in Kokrajhar district within Bodoland Territorial Region of western Assam. All the seven accused have been arrested.
