A hardcore cadre of the newly floated National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) was gunned down at Udalguri district in western Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Region on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
Identified as Jaifruz alias N Jankhlaw, the slain cadre was the commander head of the Udalguri district for the militant outfit NLFB that was floated on March this year.
“Based on specific inputs, police raided at Mazbat (about 39 km from Udalguri headquarters). On seeing the police team, Jaifruz fired at them when police had to retaliate. The accused got caught in the gun battle and died before reaching hospital,” police sources said.
Jaifruz was involved in several incidents of extortion and anti-national activities, police said.
A pistol and several rounds of live ammunitions has been recovered from him.
Jaifruz was one of the core members of the outfit that is spearheaded by M Batha, who is wanted for the massacre of 80 Adivasis in December 2014 as deputy commander in the now defunct National Democratic Front of Bodoland.
Batha whose real name is Binod Mushahary, was Deputy Chief second in command of the Saoraigwra Basumatary-faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland with Bishnu Basumatary, alias B Bidai and had laid down his arms ahead of the outfit along with three other signing peace accord with the Centre and Assam in January last year.
But, over some differences with the state went back to jungles to form NLFB that announced itself as an “armed revolutionary group” in March 15 to fight against the BJP led government in Assam and Centre.
