Dhubri police on Thursday arrested an advocate for allegedly cheating a youth of Rs 3 lakh with a government job offer at Gauripur in Dhubri district of Assam.
The advocate has been identified as Monirul Islam of Geramari village under Gauripur police station in Dhubri district. According to police, the youth who was cheated by the advocate has been identified as Safiqul Hoque.
Dhubri district Superintendent of police Anand Mishra said that Monirul Islam, a lawyer, was arrested by the police of the Gauripur police station allegedly for taking money from a youth, Safiqul Houqe, by promising him a government job.
Mishra said, “Islam, 42, was arrested on Thursday night under various sections of IPC (Indian Penal Code) including 420 (cheating) after Houqe lodged a complaint with the police,”.
The advocate collected Rs 2.5 lakh from the youth and later collected another Rs 50,000 from the victim and a deal was fixed at Rs 5 lakh. According to the agreement, the victim was supposed to pay the balance amount after receiving the joining letter.
After a couple of months, the victim somehow came to know that he was cheated on by the advocate.
