Assam: Lightning kills 3 people in Goalpara

In two separate incidents, three persons were killed and five others were injured after lighting strike on them while they were working in the field at Assam’s Goalpara district on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Ronoti Boro(70), Nameswari Khaklari(75), and Kamal Kalita(35).

“The first incident was reported from Dudhnoi area of Goalpara where two elderly persons died after lightning strikes on them when they were working in a field while other five were injured in the incident. In another incident at Dhopdhara in Piplibari village, a youth who was working in the field died after being hit by lightning,” said a local.

The injured were identified as Ajit Khaklari, Biswajit Khaklari, Anjali Khaklari, Jhanavi Khaklari and Pronati Khaklari of Dudhnoi.

A district official said that “We have sent the body for postmortem autopsy and the district administration will give the necessary compensation as per the rule,”.

“The people went to a field for cultivation in the morning and suddenly there was a thunderstorm followed by lightning, the lightning strike them while they were busy working in the field killing three persons on the spot. All three were farmers and went to the field as they always do”. said the official.
Lightning kills dozens in many parts of Assam during the rainy days and compensation is the only way to give some respite to the victim’s family.
