Assam: Prime accused, victim’s cousin arrested for murder of 13-year-old girl of Uzan Bazar

The cousin of the 13-year-old girl who was found brutally stabbed in her residence at Uzan Bazar area in the heart of Assam capital Guwahati last Wednesday evening, is arrested by police for murdering her following an altercation.

The Class VII girl was found dead on Wednesday night lying face down in a pool of blood on her bed with multiple stab woinds on her lower abdomen in their rented residence by her aunt.

Police had picked up Ashikesk Gupta alias Asik who was an adult along with two of her friends, Karan Das and Jitu and interrogated them at Latashil Police Station during which Ashik allegedly admitted to the crime.

“The accused has admitted that he killed the girl, who was his cousin sister, due to an altercation. The Police has also recovered the mobile phone and the SIM card (partially destructed), which he had hidden after the murder. The accused himself led the Police to recover the phone and SIM,” a media release mentioned.

A case (303/21) for murder was registered in Latasil police station last Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, a very heart wrenching situation has taken over the Uzan Bazar area as the Class VII student was taken for her last rights.

Along with her parents — Ashok Kumawat (father) and Anjali Kumawat (mother)– neighbours too shed tears and demanded for strictest punishment for the murderers.

The deceased who was studying in an english-medium school in Guwahati had died of blood loss and organ failure due to multiple stab wounds on her lower abdomen, priliminary reports revealed.

On that fateful night, she was alone in the house as her parents – Ashok Kumawat (father) and Anjali Kumawat (mother)– had gone ot like anyother days to run their fast food joint in the area.

Her aunt occassionally would check on her when parents weren’t home. On Wednesday, when he went to check in, she found her dead and called in the neighbours.
