Assam: SEBA reduces Class 9,10 syllabus by 40 per cent for 2021-2022

Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) has reduced the syllabus classes 9 and 10 students for the academic year 2021-2022 by 40%.

An official notification released by the board mentioned the decision has been taken keeping in mind the learning gap that students had due to the closure of educational institutions following the second wave of COVID-19 from April this year.

Classes, however, were conducted online while schools and colleges remained shut. However, there has been considerable academic loss since many students could not attend online classes for various reasons.

According to the official notification released by SEBA, it will be difficult for both students and teachers to complete the given curriculum for the academic year 2021-22. Thus, the board took the decision to reduce its syllabus for classes 9 and 10. The syllabus will be less for each subject by approximately 40% as compared to 2019.

Students should note that the revised curriculum will be available for each subject on the official website of Assam Board, Along with this, all Inspectors of Schools will also be given the PDFs of the revised syllabus. Inspectors of the Schools should circulate the revised syllabus to all stakeholders including teachers, students.

The board has also mentioned that the course education is only for examination purposes. Thus, if it is possible, teachers should complete the whole course as per the previous syllabus. Learning the whole course will help students to have adequate knowledge about the respective subjects.

Several boards have decided to reduce the syllabus for the academic year 2021-22 due to the prevailing pandemic. Recently, Maharashtra government also decided to reduce its syllabus by 25% for classes 1 to 12. Other boards such as CBSE, CISCE have also reduced the syllabus for students.
