Award-winning teacher becomes victim of moral policing in Darrang

A principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya(JNV) in Darrang district of Assam was assaulted by the teachers of the same school on Monday, once again bringing the subject of moral policing to the fore.

According to reports, P. Rajesh the principal of Jawahar Navodaya situated in Udmari area of Darrang was assaulted by a section of teachers after they tied him with a tree.

Sources said P. Rajesh was badly assaulted by a section of 20 teachers of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

A 20 second video was also viral in various social media, where P. Rajesh was seen tied up in a tree and teachers assaulting him.

After that the section of teachers filed an complaint against the principal P. Rajesh at Mangaldoi police station.

“It is not clear till now, why the teachers assaulted the principal. It is suspected that the principal P. Rajesh has recently taken action against a teacher for showing negligence during his duty,” a source said.

“We are investigating the case. Right now, we cannot ascertain the actual reason why the teacher assaulted the principal,” said a police official.

The incidences of moral policing has been reported from various parts of Assam. Assam police have registered several cases against moral policing and arrested many persons but still the people are taking law into their hand by committing such instances.

In 2019, P. Rajesh was the only teacher who was selected for National Teacher Award.

He was earlier honoured with National Award for the Best Teacher by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti ( NVS) for the year 2012.
