Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff in 3-day India visit

Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed arrives India on Saturday for a three-day official visit during which he will discuss military affairs with his Indian counterparts at New Delhi.

He left Dhaka for New Delhi on Saturday morning afer a long trip from Turkey.

General Shafiuddin, is leading an eight-member delegation and will pay courtesy calls on India’s national security adviser, chief of defence staff, chiefs of the three military forces and other senior military officials during his visit, according to Bangladesh’s Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) press release.

During the meetings, he will also discuss bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the armed forces of the two neighbouring countries.

The army chief is also scheduled to visit various military establishments of India.

Furthermore, he will also meet Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi Muhammad Imran.

General Shafiuddin is slated to return Dhaka on Wednesday.

Last week, he was with his 8-member delegation to Turkey where he met their security chiefs to discuss bilateral ties and stayed for eight days.

The visit is seen as a move of Bangladesh to further strengthen the ties between friendly nations to the country among which, India too features.
