A Bangladeshi national was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Indo-Bangladesh border in Mankachar on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Faridul Islam of Rowmari in the Kurigram District of Bangladesh.
According to police, the person was shot dead by the BSF while he was trying to smuggle cattle from India to Bangladesh with the help of a bamboo crane.
BSF DIG Dhubri sector JC Nayak said, “We have noticed that some smugglers are trying to smuggle cattle with the help of the bamboo crane over the border fencing early on Sunday morning. When our boys tried to stop them, the smugglers tried to overpower us and our boys fired at them. One Bangladeshi smuggler died on the spot,”.
“We have recovered three cattle from the spot and a bamboo crane from the spot,” he said.
