Bodoland People’s Front(BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary appeled to Election Commissioner of Assam to conduct the Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) election before Governor rules end on November 27.
Mohilary said some non political organisation like Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Boro Somaj Stay etc already moved to meet with Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to conduct the BTC election.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that due to increase in Civid-19 cases the Assam health department has asked the state election commission to postpone the BTC election.
Polling for the 40 BTC seats was scheduled to be held on April 4 and result were to be announced on April 8. But due to the coronavirus pandemic the election has to be postponed.
The BPF, has already geared up for the upcoming election in BTC and the party chief Hagrama Mohilary has been busy in election campaign.
Mohilary said, “America is going to conduct Presidential election and states like Bihar and Rajasthan is also going conduct state assembly election then why election in BTC has been postponed. It is not justified to suspend election in BTC due to Coronavirus pandemic,”.
