For 20-year-old Manisha Basumatary, her excitement to be a mother was dampened when she was detected COVID-19 positive.
She was admitted at JHB Civil Hospital in Kajalgaon of Chirang district in Bodoland Territorial Region in her last lap, over eight months, into pregnancy and was expecting a baby soon.
On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, she had contractions that prompted the health officials on the night duty to conduct the delivery.
The delivery was supervised by Dr Jitumoni Das and Mehdi Hassan Ahmed conducted by nurses, Popi Hazarika, Shanti Lata dhan and Mini Brahma.
Officials said that the delivery was conducted following COVID-19 protocols and the delivery was conducted through natural process.
“Both the child and the mother are healthy now,” one of the hospital officials informed.
