Cops nab two cattle smugglers, 3 cattle heads recovered from a vehicle in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh police managed to nab two cattle smugglers and recovered three cattle head from a car in upper Assam Dibrugarh on Wednesday night.

The smugglers have been identified as Md Sabir Ali and Md Babu Ali of Chaulkhowa, Dibrugarh.

Dibrugarh Additional superintendent of police (HQ) Bitul Chetia said, “Last night at about 11 p.m information was received at Tingrai OP that some miscreants were lifting cows in a car. Sub-inspector Bikramjit Pegu chased the vehicle and the Naka team of Lahowal police station tried to stop the vehicle at the Railway crossing but the vehicle instead of stopping hit another car and fled from there.”

“The police team while chasing the smugglers fired 4 rounds aiming at the back wheels. The vehicle met an accident at Bokul Chariali. People gathered there helped the police team to apprehend Md Sabir Ali and Md Babu Ali and recovered three cows from a Chevrolet car without number plate. The driver of the car managed to escape from the spot,” Chetia said.

Chetia further said, “A case was registered at Lahowal police station. We have alerted our police team to nab the driver who managed to escape from the spot. The cattle smugglers were from Chalkhowa area of Dibrugarh.”

Sources said the cattle smugglers are now using the luxury car to transport cattle. Most of the time, cattle smugglers use such vehicles to do crime.

“Chalkhowa area of Dibrugarh is a den of criminal activity. Most of the cattle lifters take refuge in that area. Dibrugarh police should launch a massive crackdown in the area to flush out the criminals from the area,” a resident said.
