The first of its kind COVID Rover, a special remote-controlled robotic vehicle was launched at Assam’s Bongaigaon recently by the state’s food and civil supply minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury.
The Rover, designed by the technicians of the local polytechnic, will be used to deliver food and medicines to the Covid-19 patients being treated at the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital, which has been turned into a full COVID hospital.
Since the onset of the pandemic science and technology experts are trying relentlessly to invent ways to keep the virus at bay, many failed a few succeeded. Till the time medical science doesn’t come up with a vaccine or any other form of remedy to fight the lethal virus the only way to stay safe is by social distancing and maintaining hygiene, with the moto to preach the sermon of social distancing a team of technicians from Bongaigaon came up with this unique robotic vehicle named as COVID ROVER.
The idea was mooted considering the safety of the health workers in duty at the COVID wards. Gradually, the plan is to provide the Rover even to the quarantine centers.
After the declaration of Bongaigaon Civil Hospital as a full-fledged COVID hospital, many precautions and safety measures are being taken and this invention is part of that initiative.
