An 18-year-old girl had on Monday alleged she was repeatedly raped since last year by her own father in their residence a few km from northern Tripura’s Unokoti district.
Daughter of a street hawker, the girl claimed she had made these allegations earlier too, but no permanent solution offered.
“Now, I cannot stay in this house with him (the father) anymore,” the girl, sobbing, told media.
Based on her complaints a team of Child-Line workers accompanied by police had arrived at her home about a few kilometres from district headquarters Kailasahar and rescued the girl.
The victim, who had studied till Class VII, alleged that her father had raped her for the first time a year ago and threatened if she speaks about it to anyone, he will kill their younger son.
The victim’s mother had died when she was very young and left behind two brothers with her. After her mother’s death, her father had married for the second time.
“I had told the people around about what he used to do. Besides rape, he had also molested and sexually assaulted me. A panchayat too sat on the matter, but, instead of initiating a probe into it, the asked if I wish to stay in the same house with him or go somewhere else,” the victim said.
She alleged that after that incident, recently, he had again started raping her, passing indecent lured remarks and attempted to malign her modesty.
The accused father, however, denies the charges. “The allegations are baseless. How can it be possible? Let the police investigate why she is putting these allegations on me.
“The father has been picked up and charged with various sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. We will interrogate him and will take the victim’s statement too. Right now, we are considering all the possible angles,” police said
