A nationwide dry run for Covid-19 vaccination was conducted on Saturday in different medical colleges, government and private health institutions in all the eight northeastern states.
Saturday’s dry run was conducted in all states in the country while the first mock-drill was held on December 28 and 29 in two northwestern districts of Assam — Sonitpur and Nalbari along with many districts in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, and Gujarat and it had gone off without a hitch.
According to the health officials, the dry run for Covid-19 vaccination was conducted in one district in Assam, that is Kamrup Metro, while the process was done at least in two districts each in the other northeastern states.
Assam’s National Health Mission’s (NHM) Director Lakshmanan S said that the dry-run of the Covid-19 vaccination was done successfully and effectively in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Sonapur Civil Hospital and Khanapara State Dispensary.
“The aim of the dry run is to find out the preparedness of the actual Covid-19 vaccination and any loopholes in the entire system before administering the vaccine to the people,” said an NHM official.
In Tripura, NHM Director Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal said that the dry run process was done in the Indira Gandhi Memorial state hospital in Agartala and in two primary health centers in west Tripura district.
In Manipur, state nodal officer of NHM R.K. Rosie said that in five locations each of Imphal West and Thoubal district, the mock-drill of the Covid-19 vaccination was conducted without any problem.
In Meghalaya, Commissioner and Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), Sampath Kumar said that the dry run was conducted in two districts of the state — East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills district.
The central government’s protocols were followed for this dry run.
In Mizoram, the dry run was conducted in two locations in Aizawl city. A total of 25 volunteers participated in the mock drill, held at two primary health centres at ITI Urban PHC in Aizawl East health district and Chawlhhmun PHC in Aizawl West health district.
To conduct this dry run of vaccination, all arrangements were made by the Mizoram government’s directorate of health services under the guidelines of the National Expert Group on Vaccination of Covid 19 (NEGVAC).
In Nagaland, the dry run for Covid-19 vaccination was held at School of Nursing district hospital in Dimapur.
Apart from the staff of the designated vaccination centres, a selected group of health care workers as test vaccine beneficiaries took part in the dry run and each centre had identified 25 test beneficiaries for the mock-drill.
According to the health officials, the dry run would ensure that phase-one of Covid-19 vaccination goes without any malfunction.
The dry run has tested the linkages between planning and implementation and to identify the challenges. It also tested the Co-WIN application, developed specifically for Covid-19 vaccination drive, in the field.
