Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital where he was kept after declared COVID-19 negative for observation.
85-year-old Gogoi, was found COVID-19 infected on August 25.
Senior health officials of the hospital said Gogoi was shifted after he complained of uneasiness and difficulty in breathing.
A team of doctors is closely monitoring the health condition of the veteran Congress leader and three-time chief minister of Assam.
He was detected COVID-19 negative on September 16 but, was still kept in the hospital by his family members for some more days till he gets completely cured.
Doctors at the GMCH said his condition was gradually improving until this afternoon when his oxygen levels had suddenly dropped.
Earlier in August 31 nights too, his oxygen level had suddenly dropped to 88 percent, and was given plasma therapy.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had on September 4 said, that although there is no clear statistics, but in government’s estimation many people who have been successfully treated for COVID, have developed serious complications like palmunary fibrosis, a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred.
GMCH, however, is yet to tell the reason why conditions deteriorated.
