Hunger strike by ITI (SCVT) students in Dibrugarh

ITI students of various Institutes sat on a 12-hour hunger strike in front of the AASU swahid bhavan in Dibrugarh on Friday in protest against the delay in examinations.

These students were from the 2019-20 final year batches of ITI (SCVT) whose examinations were postponed due to the covid pandemic. The students alleged that they have been deprived of the opportunity to apply for various recruitment exams. Most of the students are pursuing ITI courses in different trades.

“Last year our exams were cancelled due to covid. We have lost one valuable year because of it. In the meantime we have lost several job opportunities since we couldn’t apply. On August 24, Oil India Limited (OIL) had given an advertisement for filling up 535 technical posts but in vain,” Sourav Gogoi, an ITI student said.

The students also sent a memorandum to minister of skill development Chandra Mohan Patowary to conduct their pending examination within 15 days. They also sought that the results should be declared within 3 months of the examination alongwith marksheets and certificates. The students also appealed to the minister to ensure that the students of the 2019-20 final year batches are able to apply for the latest vacancies of Oil India Limited.
