IRB Jawan from Sikkim commits suicide at New Delhi

An India Reserve Battalion jawan from Sikkim allegedly committed suicide with his service issued rifle in Delhi on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

The deceased, 29-year-old hailed from Singtam in East Sikkim district, about 82 kms from the northeast frontier state’s capital Gangtok.

He was inducted in the force in the 2012 batch and is survived by his wife and a child.

IRB commandant Jaya Pandiya in New Delhi informed that the matter is under investigation.

According to preliminary investigation, the jawan had apparently made his intentions to take his life through a social media post 14 hours before the incident.

He had left a goodbye message, “good bye everyone” along with a montage of pictures as a video on the social media.

IRB is a special armed force dedicated to a particular state raised in 1971 that is neither under the home department or the defence, but mantained by the Central government.
