Jailed leader Akhil Gogoi is contemplating to move privilege motion against CM Sarma’s remark

Jailed peasant leader and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi is contemplating to move privilege motion against the chief minister’s remark.

Recently, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Akhil Gogoi is a psychiatric patient and undergoing treatment for the same in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Raijor Dal working president Bhasco De Saikia said that the chief minister should not have stated Gogoi’s health condition in the assembly.

Raijor Dal stated Gogoi was contemplating filing a breach of privilege motion against the chief minister soon.

Akhil contested in absentia while he was in jail. He took oath as an MLA on Friday.

He had sought permission from the speaker to attend the proceeding for the remaining days. The assembly ended on Monday. Speaker Biswajit Daimary had sought the home department’s opinion on Gogoi’s request and did not give the permission.

“How can a patient move around and attend the assembly proceeding. For the last four months, he has been in the paying cabin of GMCH, he has psychological issues and is suffering from emotional imbalance,” CM Sarma said addressing the Speaker.

Akhil’s family members alleged the government has breached the patient’s right to confidentiality.
