Kolkata-bound aircraft makes emergency landing at Silchar, NOTAM issued

A Kolkata-bound Air India flight had to make an emergency landing back at Silchar from where it initiated due to a “technical glitch” on Wednesday.

This had delayed several other flights’ timing supposed to take off from the Silchar airport, as the flight had occupied a functional bay in the airport till late afternoon.

The flight, AI753 that actually originates from Kolkata had arrived at Silchar Airport at 7 am and was supposed to return with passengers back to Kolkata at 7:52 am.

It was boarded by a total of 144 passengers at the Silchar airport, in the southern Assam’s Barak Valley — the three districts Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi — located at Kumbhirgram, about 25 km from the Silchar town, Cachar district headquarters, and the commercial hub of the region.

“Immediately after taking off, the pilot of flight detected a technical snag. The pilot returned to Silchar Airport and safely landed at 8:13 am and parked at Bay no. 3,” said the authorities at the airport in a statement.

“All the passengers & crew deboarded from the aircraft safely. Passengers were intimated about the technical fault and cancellation of the flight. Airport Director ensured that all stranded passengers are served refreshment,” mentioned the statement.

Airport authorities said that it had to issue a notice to airmen (NOTAM) for the delay, as after the emergency landing, no other parking bay was available for accommodating further flights at the Silchar Airport.

“NOTAM action was initiated regarding nonavailability of Parking Bay for the day on 10.11.2021. Action taken in priority to vacate the stranded aircraft from Bay no. 3 and it has vacated the Apron at 13:55 hrs,” the statement mentioned.

NOTAM is a notice filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the flight

Authorities said that the aircraft is now placed at the Isolation Bay and NOTAM has been withdrawn.

However, all the aircrafts have been instructed to ensure smooth cancellation or rescheduling of tickets and to provide all necessary support to passengers by the authority.
