Meghalaya is reeling under massive floods and so far 18 people have died due to landslides and floods in the state this week.
Nearly 5 lakh people were affected in the state and shifted to the relief camps. The road communication between Shillong, Guwahati, and Tripura was affected due to landslides. Since April this year, 27 persons have died in the state due to floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, search and relief operation has been going on in the state. NDRF and SDRF teams are busy with rescue operations.
Two major National Highways remained cut off in Meghalaya due to heavy damage to the roads.
A body buried under the debris of a caved-in portion on the NH-6 in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills was recovered on Saturday.
The body was identified to be that of one Bishujit Chakrabarty (36) who hailed from the West Tripura district. The missing truck handyman’s body was recovered after 2 days. The recovery took an hour since the body was located at a depth of about 400 ft.
Similarly, Tripura has also been affected due to continuous downpour and most of the districts in the state has been battling due to flood. Tripura government has urged the Centre to send essential supplies via Bangladesh as the rail and road links to the state were cut off.
