Mob lynched a suspected Bangladeshi along the international borders

A man, suspected to be belonging from the neighbouring country Bangladesh died in south-western Tripura’s Sipahijala district after he was thrashed by a mob who claim to have caught him attempting to steal cattle in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

According to the locals of the Kamalnagar area under the Sonamura police station of the district, a group of three had crossed the border into the state on Friday.

Police said, “The deceased has not been identified yet. But, we have recovered Bangladeshi currencies and a mobile phone belonging from that country. Also, we have come to know that before he died, he admitted to the locals that he has come from a certain location in the neighbouring country.”

According to locals, the mob only beat up the three after they had attacked a resident of the locality named Liton Pal.

“The thieves had attempted to steal Liton’s cow, but, he intervened on time. He created a ruckus there during which locals rushed in. They saw that he was badly injured and that’s when they charged the accused. While one got caught, the rest managed to escape,” said a local.

Tripura shares a 318 km porous border with Bangladesh.
