Nandita Saikia’s murder case to be tried in Fast Track Court: Assam Cabinet decides

The Assam Cabinet on Thursday has decided to begin trial of murder case of Nandita Saikia in Fast Track Court.

State education minister Ranoj Pegu informed the development after the Assam cabinet meeting.

Talking to media persons in Guwahati, Pegu said, “In today’s cabinet meeting, we have decided to trial the Nandita Saikia’s murder case in fast track court. We have decided to appoint Special DGP GP Singh to initiate the investigation process. The culprit should get exemplary punished under the purview of law.”

The College girl, Nandita Saikia, who was battling for her life after sustaining grievous injuries in a machete attack succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

Her body was brought to Maridhal College on Wednesday night where hundreds of students, teacher gathered and everybody was in tears. The students demanded stringent punishment for Rintu Sarma.

Nandita was pursuing BA 3rd semester at Maridhal College in Dhemaji. Nandita hailed from Naba Kathbari village of Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district.

Nandita Saikia was attacked with a machete on Saturday by one Rintu Sarma in Dhemaji district of Assam.

On the other hand, the opposition Congress has demanded exemplary punishment for the murderer of college girl.

The Assam Congress has said that the death of Nandita Saikia is a result of BJP-led state government’s failure to maintain law and order.

“The BJP government has failed completely in maintaning law and order in the state, as evident from this dastardly murder. The broad daylight attack on this young student with a machete, leading to her death, exposes the inefficient administrative system,” an APCC statement said.
