‘Only had a year of service’: mourns family of slained BSF Jawan from Tripura

Among the three bravehearts who had laid down their lives fighting infiltrators along Line of Control in Machil sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir last Sunday was a constable, Sudip Sarkar from Tripura’s capital city Agartala.

Sudip, who was fondly called by his family members as ‘Bhuton’, was the only BSF jawan of the Indian Army-BSF jawan joint team that had neutralised three infiltrators.

On Monday afternoon, his family members in Banamalipur Dhaleswar of Agartala, got the news of his brave sacrifice, which shocked the entire family.

“On Saturday night, he had called our mother saying he is doing alright and today afternoon, we received the news of his death,” a grief-striken Sudip’s brother, Dipankar Sarkar said on Sunday.

“He only had a year of his service left and had planned to settle down once he returned,” Dipankar added. Sudip who served in 169 Battalion of BSF had joined the force in the year 2000.

Dipankar informed that Sudip’s wife and his two daughters were staying in Cooch Behar, West Bengal.
