Assam Police had on Sunday seized 3 kg 45 gram of heroin from Sonitpur district and 88mg of heroin from Morigaon district in two seperate operations.
Two persons for both the cases have also been arrested.
The heroin was recovered from upper Assam’s Sonitpur district, found in secret compartments of a 6-wheeled truck bearing registration number AS 04 AC 5213. The truck was stopped at a nakka in Lahorighat. While the remaining was recovered during a raid at a couple’s house in Jagiroad of Morigan, who have also been involved in various other crimes.
The truckers were carrying six packets of heroin, a refined form of opium-based narcotics, while the couple had 88 containers each having 1 mg of the same.
The two arrested truckers, Rame Gurung and Bhim Gurung hail from Manipur while the couple, named Abdul Malek and Fatema Begum were residents of Jagiroad near the paper mill.
“Besides the drugs, police also found pump set, copper amd aluminium wires suspected to have been stolen from the now shut paper mill and temple artifacts suggesting the duo were involved in theft too,” a police said.
All the accused have been booked under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
