Rajdhani Express reaches Vangaichungpao on a trail run

Manipur situated at the farthest corner of India at last gets included in the Rajdhani Express route map of the country. Manipur which had no connectivity through the fastest railway express train for decades got to hear the whistle of Rajdhani Express for the first time. The people of Manipur expressed happiness after the inclusion.

On Friday, a Rajdhani Express from Silchar in Assam entered Manipur for the first time through a stretch of the railway network of 11 km.

Railway officials at Silchar boarded the passenger train, which came up to Vangaichungpao station in Tamenglong district bordering Nagaland.

The Railway officials halted briefly at the Silchar Railway station, where they hosted the Indian flag and sang the national anthem.

According to Railway officials, the service will soon be formally inaugurated by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

There have been inordinate delays due to landslides and other natural calamities. Lockdowns and strikes also obstructed the construction work. Even some employees and workers were kidnapped for huge sums as ransom.
The plan is to reach Imphal and eventually construct the last railway station at Moreh, which is an Indo-Mayanmar bordering town. Railway connectivity to Moreh will boost trading and business with South Asian countries experts believe.
“We are happy about the new inclusion. The new route will definitely boost economy and connectivity. Things are changing for good and we are hopeful that lots of developmental works will get initiated once the daily run starts,” said a resident of Tamenglong.
