Rape and murder of a minor amid lockdown in Assam-Bhutan border

In a very disgraceful incident in the Assam-Bhutan Border at Chirang district of Assam, a nine-year girl child allegedly raped and murdered. The incident took place in Deushri’s Ganeshpur under Runikhata police station and Dadagiri Border Police outpost. On Thursday, the child’s stepmother went to a neighbor’s place leaving the child sleeping at home. There was a huge uproar when she returned home and found the child missing.

The people of the locality searched for the child on that very night, but could not trace her whereabouts. The matter was then intimated to the Dadagiri border outpost. Suddenly today at 9 am in the morning the clothes of the child were recovered from a nearby forest.

Later with the joint effort of police and the villagers, the stripped dead body of the child was found. It was after three days of kidnapping that the body was recovered. The local people have alleged it to be a case of rape and murder. This is the third case in a row of similar nature that came to the fore under Runikhata police station during the ongoing lockdown triggered by the outbreak of COVID-19.

After the body was recovered, the high officials of Chirang district including Additional SP Bedai Prakash Borkakoti, DSP Pratap Das, Circle Inspector of Runikhata PS Rushtom Raj Brahma and the police personnel of Runikhata PS and Dadagiri Border outpost reached the site and began the investigation with the help of Army and SSB’s dog squad.
