Agartala, 15 September: ‘Media often portrays Monkeys as Tigers and Tigers as Monkeys’, alleged Biplab Deb. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Dev told reporters to look in the mirror.
On Tuesday, some channel owners and editors in Agartala went to meet the Chief Minister. Speaking to media persons at the state secretariat, the Chief Minister clarified his statement in Sabroom on Friday.
Last Friday in Sabroom, the Chief Minister went to lay the foundation stone of the Special Economic Zone and said that some media were spreading propaganda about Covid. They are frightening the people of the state. The people of Tripura will not forgive them. and he himself will not forgive them.
This statement of the Chief Minister was highly criticized. Many journalists claim that Biplab Deb has threatened to take a look at the media.
Speaking to some channel owners and editors on Tuesday, Biplab Deb said that one should also look at how much responsibility he has been fulfilled. The media should also be self-critical. It remains to be seen whether they are acting responsibly. He said what he said in Sabroom was not meant to warning for anyone. He only asked the people of the state to be aware of the conspiracies taking place in different places. Biplab Deb says that monkeys are often turned into tigers for publicity. CM Biplab Deb said that he never wanted to hurt anyone but media also should do its duty properly. He alleged, due to media, people are now afraid to come to hospitals.
Biplab also urged upon all to remain strong and steady and to extend co-operation to the government in coping with the raging corona pandemic. While seeking co-operation from all sections of the media the chief minister appealed to media not to confuse and mislead people by presenting wrong news and disinformation.
It is remembered that the journalist fraternity asked the Chief Minister to withdraw his threat statement and seek an apology within three days.
