Two held with 500 gms heroin in Guwahati; 9 arrests by far; 1.8 kg seized

Guwahati police had arrested two drug traffickers along with 500 gm heroin within 48 hours of making major busts all across the city and its outskirts during which only heroin worth more than Rs 9 crore has been recovered.

Police said that while investigating a case (571/2021) registered under Chandmari PS on Saturday in which four people were arrested and heroin was recovered, Central Guwahati Police District Special Squad and Chandmari Police conducted operation through Saturday night till Sunday morning to nab more drug traffickers.

Both the arrested — Sankar Das of Jytoikuchi and Sargam Das 28 of Satgaon — hailed from Guwahati city. While, Karan was arrested near Sankar Hotel in the Fatasil Ambari area along with 23 packets of heroin and Rs 7,05,860 cash from his possession, Sargam was arrested near his residence with 12 more packets of heroin along with Rs 12,000 from his possession.

One Kwid car (AS01DW 6046) was also recovered. The 35 recovered packets of heroin weigh approximately 500 gm, which is worth Rs 3.5 crore in the international market.

Earlier on Sunday, five persons were arrested and 1.3 kg unadulterated heroin worth at least Rs 9 crore packed in 100 soap boxes were recovered from a vehicle travelling from Manipur state meant to be sold at Guwahati while two other small time peddlers from whom 42.41 gms and 15 gms of the morphine-based drug was recovered.
