Two service rifles stolen from Forest office in Assam’s Sonitpur

Miscreants stole service rifles of forest officials from its beat office in Upper Assam’s Sonitpur districts on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

A massive search operation has been launched by the forest department along with district police led by the Additional SP in the near by areas.

Two 303 rifles government issued to forest officers were stolen from the beat office in Sunai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary a Golai area of the district.

“We believe the miscreants are from te nearby villages who had stolen it for some extra money,” police said.

The Lee–Enfield rifle, commonly known as the .303 SLME (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) or just 303, is a bolt action, magazine-fed rifle that served the English military and that of the Commonwealth since 1895 and saw action in both World War 1 and World War II.

Police is knocking every doors in the Golai area and near by villages.
