Meghalaya government had by last Tuesday completely inoculated all the adults of at least two villages with COVID-19 vaccines.
While Golagaon Village under Bhaitbari PHC in West Garo Hills District was the first, last Tuesday, Chiringro village from Samanda Block in East Garo Hills also joined the league.
Meanwhile, Kemrang Village under Mawkliaw PHC in Pynursla Block of East Khasi Hills have completely inoculated those above the age of 45.
Announcing the latest feat, the district administration of East Garo Hills said, “Chiringro village from Samanda Block becomes the first village in the district to achieve 100% coverage of covid vaccination for all eligible adults. Thanks to the initiative by the youth group called Indian Bubbles, Father Melwyn, Fr. Valerian Castelino SJ, Medical Staff from Samanda PHC and our District Immunisation Officer. Hope this will inspire many more!”
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma too congratulated the village and wrote in his social media, “Chiringro village from Samanda Block becomes the first village in East Garo Hills to achieve 100% coverage of covid vaccination for all eligible adults. Congratulations to the entire team!”
Meghalaya had started a vaccination programme on January 16 this year.
The state government launched a massive vaccination drive to get all the eligible people vaccinated.
Till Tuesday, the total doses administered is 6,16,537. While, cumulative total of 1st dose stands at 5,41,147 and as many as 75,390 were administered second dose.
