A group of suspected NSCN (K-YA) militants abducted a Gaon Burah (village headman) from the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.
The abducted village head has been identified as Napho Boham of Lauksim village of Longding district.
As per information, the abduction took place on the intervening night of May 7 and 8 when an armed group of suspected NSCN (K-YA) insurgents sneaked in from Laukun village of Mon district and abducted the Gaon Burah.
Confirming the incident, Longding Superintendent of Police Vikran Harimohan Meena said NSCN(K-YA) militants were suspected of this abduction.
“We have intensified our operation against the militant group. A search operation has been launched to find the whereabouts of the Gaon Burah,” the SP said.
Recently, many NSCN cadres were apprehended by security forces from TLC region of Arunachal Pradesh. Many NSCN (K-YA) militants also laid down their arms before security forces.
The people of Lahu village in Dadam Circle of Arunachal’s Tirap district has recently pledged to stand firm against insurgency in the area.
Sources said NSCN(K-YA) faction was active in the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh. They are involved in extortion activities in the area and if anyone denied paying taxes to them they abduct the person for money.
Meanwhile, security forces have been trying their best to curb extortion-related activities but this militant group is working with their trusted linkman, who are helping them to generate money through extortion.
Longding district shares its boundary with Nagaland, Assam, and Myanmar and is often used as a transit route by various militant outfits to enter Assam as well as Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
